What's the Difference between Hemp Oil & CBD?

What's the Difference between Hemp Oil & CBD?

Since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first cannabidiol (CBD)-based drug, people have become obsessed with the benefits of hemp oil and CBD oil. But there's still a lot of confusion around CBD products and the difference between hemp seed oil and CBD oil. What you should know is that these two cannabinoid oils are very different products.

They both work with the body's natural endocannabinoid system as receptors, but seeing that they're two separate compounds, they each work a little differently.

In this article, we're going to explore the benefits of hemp oil and CBD oil - as well as what differentiates them.  We'll also be recommending some excellent hemp and CBD products that you're going to love!

CBD OIL

CBD is a component of the cannabis plant (cannabis sativa), known for its anti-inflammatory benefits. You will find three different types of CBD oil:

  • Full-spectrum CBD oil: This oil contains all compounds of the cannabis plant, including low levels of THC ( tetrahydrocannabinol).
  • Broad-spectrum CBD oil. An oil comprised of several compounds, with zero levels of THC.
  • CBD isolate - made only of CBD.

Nowadays you'll find CBD in everything from skincare products to tinctures. That's how popular it's becoming. Extracted from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of the cannabis plant, there are a number of medicinal benefits of CBD oil.

“Cannabidiol—known as CBD—is one of over a hundred active compounds or cannabinoids found exclusively in the cannabis plant,” explains Cindy Capobianco, co-founder of Lord Jones. “CBD acts as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory, which reduces pain and inflammation. It’s been used for centuries to successfully provide pain relief to muscle aches, arthritis, joint pain, neuropathic conditions, headaches, and to aid skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, even sunburn, and bug bites when used topically.”

It’s also been shown in several studies to reduce lipid product from the sebaceous glands—thus, preventing acne.

HEMP SEED OIL

Unlike CBD, hemp seed oil contains zero amounts of CBD or THC. Considered a superfood thanks to its high levels of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, you'll find it in health food stores, where it's actually been available for decades. Because of its fatty acids, hemp is also a natural antioxidant, which means it's amazing for the skin.

Whereas people use CBD oil products for psychoactive effects, hemp seed oil is usually used for its wellness and nutritional effects.

Studies show that hemp oil can help ease constipation, improve skin conditions, and offer anti-cancerous effects, among other benefits.

BEAUTY BENEFITS OF CBD OIL

There are a number of skincare benefits of CBD oil.

Thanks to its essential fatty acids, CBD hemp oil can fight aging and improve the skin tone. It also works great as a carrier oil, although you do need to be careful which oils you mix it with. Make sure you choose complementing ones.

CBD hemp oil is also beneficial for calming inflammation and reducing acne. Research also shows that CBD hemp oil can decrease excess sebum production, owing to its balancing effect on skin’s oil. Whether you're using full spectrum or CBD isolate, you will reap a myriad of beauty benefits from this low THC cannabis oil.

BEAUTY BENEFITS OF HEMP OIL

Hemp seed oil also offers a plethora of benefits. Provided that you choose industrial hemp oil, you can expect benefits such as balanced skin, hydration, anti-aging, and less inflammation. So in addition to it being a wonderful well-being and dietary supplement, hemp marijuana plant oil is also excellent for the skin.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP OIL AND CBD OIL

Both CBD extract oil and hemp extract oil are essentially wellness ingredients so you can safely use either without being harmed. However, depending on the health benefits or skincare benefits you're seeking, one of them won't deliver your expectations. That's why it's important to know the difference. You also need to be especially careful, as many brands are calling hemp seed oil cannabis sativa oil, which is incorrect. They may come from the same plant, but they're very different compounds.

To make sure you’re getting the right cannabis sativa plant product, check the product label. For instance, if it's full spectrum CBD oil you're after, make sure it contains CBD content. If it's hemp, check for hemp plant oil content.

We also recommend purchasing a high quality topical or oral product that's been made in the United States. This way, you are guaranteed an ethical extraction process and non-GMO product without pesticides. When the whole plant is grown well and ethically, you reap more benefits from these phytocannabinoid-rich oils. Just remember to always look at product labeling to ensure you're getting a quality product.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Fortunately, neither hemp nor CBD has any dangerous side effects. All in all, they are both considered safe for the skin and safe taken orally too. So if you're concerned about side effects, you really don't need to be.

Since the farm bill came into place, CBD can be deemed as safe as olive oil. Whether you use a CBD tincture as a dropper to apply the oil directly or use it within skincare products, you should still watch out for any adverse effects. In the case that they occur, stop using cannabinoids completely.

However, this situation rarely occurs. Scientists consider both hemp oil and cbd oil to be two safe compounds with many health and beauty benefits.
