This homemade sugar scrub exfoliates and moisturizes for softer, smoother skin.

You only need a few ingredients to make your own sugar scrub. And the cool thing is, you can customize it to create a texture and scent you love. Unlike salt scrubs which provide coarser exfoliation, sugar scrubs are gentler, more hydrating, and better for sensitive skin.

Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipe

A whipped sugar scrub is a little different from a traditional body scrub. Instead of a simple oil-and-sugar mixture, the whipped texture feels creamy, fluffy, and luxurious as it glides across your skin. Want to make your own? Here’s how to make a DIY sugar scrub at home.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (110 g) coconut oil, softened
  • ¼ cup (55 g) shea butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) fine white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil or jojoba oil
  • 10 drops essential oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Beat the coconut oil and shea butter with a hand mixer for 3–5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix in the sweet almond oil and vitamin E oil.
  3. Gradually fold in the sugar until evenly distributed.
  4. Add your essential oil and mix briefly.
  5. Spoon into a clean, dry jar.
  6. The scrub will be fluffy at room temperature. If your room is very warm, refrigerate it for 15–20 minutes after whipping to help it hold its shape.

Fragrance Ideas

  • Relaxing: Lavender + vanilla
  • Fresh: Peppermint + eucalyptus
  • Tropical: Lime + coconut fragrance oil
  • Sweet: Vanilla fragrance oil
  • Spa: Bergamot + cedarwood

Tips for the Best Texture

  • Use fine sugar instead of coarse sugar for a gentler feel.
  • Don’t melt the oils completely, as softened oils whip much better.
  • If the scrub feels too dense, whip it for another minute or two before adding the sugar.
  • If it's too soft, add a little more shea butter or chill it briefly before whipping again.

What makes this scrub different from DIY scrubs: it’s formulated with Vitamin E and powerful antioxidants that deeply nourish and hydrate the skin for a gorgeous natural glow.

Benefits of Sugar Scrubs

Sugar scrubs are a simple way to give your skin a little extra care. The fine sugar crystals gently remove dead skin cells while nourishing oils help lock in moisture, leaving your skin feeling soft, smooth, and refreshed.

Unlike harsher exfoliants, sugar scrubs provide a gentle polishing effect that helps improve the look and feel of your skin without leaving it stripped or dry. Regular exfoliation can help remove buildup, smooth rough patches, and reveal a brighter, more radiant-looking complexion.

Sugar scrubs can also be a great addition to your shaving routine. Using one before shaving helps smooth away dry skin and creates a softer surface, allowing your razor to glide more easily for a closer, smoother shave.

How to Use Sugar Scrub

For the best results, use your sugar scrub on damp skin while showering or bathing. Scoop a small amount of scrub and gently massage it onto your skin using circular motions. Focus on areas that tend to feel rough, such as elbows, knees, and heels.

After exfoliating, rinse thoroughly with warm water and gently pat your skin dry. Follow with your favorite body lotion or moisturizer to help keep your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

A sugar scrub can be used one to three times per week depending on your skin type and personal preference.

How to Store Homemade Sugar Scrub

Store your DIY sugar scrub in a clean, airtight jar and keep it somewhere cool and dry. Since this recipe does not contain water or added preservatives, using clean, dry hands or a spoon when scooping the scrub will help keep it fresh for longer.

Making a homemade whipped sugar scrub is an easy way to bring a little extra luxury into your skincare routine. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a creamy, nourishing exfoliator that helps leave your skin feeling smoother.

And if you love the idea of a whipped sugar scrub but prefer something ready to use, our Smooth Legend Pre-Shave Scrub offers the same indulgent texture with carefully selected ingredients designed to help smooth, brighten, and nourish your skin.
