Ana De Armas’ 3-Step Routine to Become Marilyn Monroe

Ana De Armas’ 3-Step Routine to Become Marilyn Monroe
by Truly Beauty

The first, highly anticipated teaser for Ana de Armas' Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde just arrived, and it looks....SENSATIONAL!

Blonde, which is directed by Andrew Dominik, has been in production for over 10 years, so you can see why there’s so much anticipation surrounding this movie. Based on Joyce Carol Oates’s novel of the same name, Blonde is produced by Brad Pitt. Alongside Armas, Sara Paxton, Evan Williams, Toby Huss, and Adrien Brody will be playing a role in the Hollywood icon’s biopic.

The official Blonde synopsis courtesy of Netflix reads: “ boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, ‘Blondeblurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.”

Eeeeek!

But what did it take for the Knives Out Star, aka Ana de Armas, to transform into the old Hollywood bombshell? Here’s the actress’s three step routine to become Marilyn Monroe.

Step #1: Go Bald

Okay, so she didn’t have to shave all her hair off, but she did need to stick on a bald cap every single day to prep her head for all those wigs.

“I had to go bald every day, because the blonde wigs,” said Armas back in 2021. “ went through different shades of blonde from golden to really platinum, so for these wigs that are beautifully made, you can’t have anything dark underneath, so we had to make a bald cap every single day from my forehead to my whole head.”

Given that the movie follows Monroe‘s life from childhood to stardom, the hair team settled upon 30 different looks. Now that’s a lot of wigs!

Step #2: Spend A LOT of Time in Makeup

According to the No Time to Die actress, she spent three and a half hours every day in makeup. Between those iconic Marilyn arches, red pout, and all the rest, it took makeup artists a long time each day to prepare Anna de Armas for the role as Marilyn Monroe.

“It was quite a thing to go back to that time period and look at her beauty routine and the way she did her face,“ the Deep Water actress tells Elle. “I wore that make-up so many times I could do it on my own now. Her hair changed shades of blonde all the time, and got shorter and longer. Even the fashion, with the bras and the dresses, was so highly produced.”

From the first look at the Monroe story, Armas looks a lot like The Seven Year Itch actress. Clearly, the filmmakers and directors made a good choice selecting Ana de Armas to play Marilyn.

Step #3: Understand Monroe’s Inner Psyche

“Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph. We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it,” recalls Armas. “The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible.”

Just like the novel, Blonde recreates iconic moments from Monroe’s life and career. From her performance in Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend to her lead role in the musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, this movie delves into the full story and background of Norma Jeane Baker, aka Marilyn Monroe.

You only have to see the trailer for yourself and it’s clear: Ana de Armas is Marilyn Monroe. Or at least, she does a VERY good job convincing us.

ANA DE ARMAS’ BEAUTY TIPS

Surprisingly, the Cuban actress has an incredibly low key beauty routine. Here are some of her beauty tips you can apply to your own routine.

She Swears by this Face Cream

Ana de Armas’ favorite cream is the best-selling Estée Lauder Revitalizing Supreme+ and Youth Power Creme “because it’s a multitasking cream since sometimes I don’t have time for all the steps,” she tells Glamour. “It’s lifting, hydrating, firming, and has a boost of collagen, plus the texture is amazing.”

While this product comes with a hefty price tag, you can also try our Cream Skin Face Cream for similar effects. It’s made with hyaluronic acid sea kelp to leave skin smoother, firmer, and dewier.

Her Makeup Routine is More Minimalist than Marilyn’s

The actress keeps things simple when it comes to her makeup routine. "I need mascara and blush," she says of her two must-have makeup products. "I usually end up putting my blush on my lips, or the other way around.”

She Prioritizes Self-Care

With a busy schedule like Armas’, you need to chill every now and then, right? Well, Anna de Armas takes self-care very seriously -- to the extent that she’s made a room especially for meditating in.

“I recently built a meditation room — it's a beautiful space for myself, and I can go there to or read. It just feels really good,” she tells Allure.

If you can’t build a meditation room, try our NEW VIP Collection 3.0, which contains multiple products that deliver several beauty routines for the face, body, and lips. You’ll feel like the ultimate queen using this luxury bundle.

Blonde is an upcoming biopic created by director Andrew Dominik that explores the life and career of Marilyn Monroe. It stars everyone from Anna de Armas to Adrien Brody to Bobby Cannavale and Julianne Nicholson. The movie is scheduled to be released on September 23, 2022 by Netflix.
