6 Daily Rituals to Keep Your Mind (and Skin) in Check

6 Daily Rituals to Keep Your Mind (and Skin) in Check
by Truly Beauty

A ritual is essentially any action that invokes healing energy into your life. It doesn't really matter what the action is. What matters is what that action symbolizes to you, and the impact it has on your overall wellbeing.

Now that the new year is here, we'd like to help you form a few new rituals as a way to transform and heal your mind, body, and spirit.

Here are a few of our favorite daily rituals to help you feel your best -- from the moment you wake up to the moment you're ready to snooze.

#1: Enjoy Your Morning Coffee

Mornings are an excellent opportunity to start your day with a ritual. One of our favorites? Enjoying a cup of coffee. Not a coffee fan? Try tea instead, or whatever beverage strikes your fancy. Just try to choose one that's not too unhealthy.

Take time to make your favorite drink and sip it slowly so you can take in the smell, flavor, and texture of the beverage. It's about being in the present moment, savoring the drink and paying attention to all your senses to help you get in tune with yourself. It can also help put you in a slower and more relaxed state. Ultimately, it's a great way to start your day!

#2: Create a To-Do List

Incorporating to-do lists into your morning ritual can make your days more productive. Plus, it feels super rewarding to be able to tick off the tasks you've completed at the end of the day. Of course, you can also check them off throughout the day if that works better for you.

By purposely choosing where to focus your energy and time, you'll be able to keep track of everything that is meaningful and important to you.

When creating your to-do list, make sure you're very specific. In other words, don't just put "clean" or "call mom." Add a little more detail to each task so you know the purpose behind the task. For instance, "clean bathroom" or "call mom to discuss birthday plans." Otherwise, the task probably won't end up getting done.

#3: Bathe

Taking a shower or bath is a daily necessity, but you can turn it into a self-care moment. Rather than treating it like another task you have to do before starting your day, treat it as something you enjoy.

When showering, let the water wash over you and enjoy the sensations of the warm water and cleanser. You should feel your worry, anger, and anxiety being washed away. When bathing, add revitalizing salts to relieve tension.

#4: Do Your Skincare Routine

Skincare can be an excellent self-care tool. By following a regular skincare routine, you are actively promoting skin health while giving yourself a little wellness session. Both of which are incredibly good for your mind and skin! Plus, it can be a great way to start off your day -- or end your day.

For your morning routine, start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser, applying an antioxidant-loaded serum, and finishing with sunscreen to protect your skin while outdoors. For your evening routine, wash away the day's makeup and dirt using a gentle cleanser, and address any skin concerns using a targeted serum. For instance, if you're trying to target fine lines and wrinkles, opt for a retinol-infused serum. If you're trying to treat acne, pick something formulated with salicylic acid. Finish with a nourishing moisturizer to lock in hydration.

Once or twice a week, it's also good to exfoliate your skin using a gentle chemical exfoliant or scrub. This will help remove dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, allowing your skincare products to absorb better.

#5: Drink Water

Most of us know the benefits of drinking water. However, not everyone is drinking enough. As a result, they're becoming dehydrated and consequently, not feeling their best. Staying hydrated is important for your physical health, your mental health, and your skin health.

Aim to drink a glass of water every hour to stay hydrated throughout the day. You can make it more exciting by adding lemon, lime, or cucumber slices. Alternatively, seek hydration from other beverages like herbal teas and juices. Steer clear of soda and caffeinated beverages which can actually dehydrate you.

#6: Move!

Exercise is important for your overall health. It strengthens your immune system, improves circulation, and prevents obesity. Alongside this, working out releases endorphins -- aka, happy hormones! And it may even promote quality sleep.

If you're a morning person, try working out as soon as you wake up. You could go for a walk, jog, or attend a yoga lesson. Alternatively, try an at-home workout if you don't fancy leaving your home that early in the morning.

Don't worry if you're an evening person. You can still work out -- just do it in the afternoon or evening instead. You get just as many health benefits!

Working out should be part of anyone's self-care routine. It's vital for keeping you healthy and happy.

Other ideas for keeping your mind and skin in check this new year include spending less time on social media, repeating positive affirmations out loud every morning, and upping your intake of fruits and veggies.

Remember to share this post with your loved ones to encourage them to incorporate these daily rituals into their routine!
