Want to get rid of the fuzz on your butt, but not sure where to get started? You have two options: shave or wax.
Personally, I like to shave. It's cheaper than laser, less irritating, and generally more consistent.
Here's why you might want to consider shaving instead of waxing, too.
Since the average cost of butt waxing is around $50, shaving is a much more affordable hair removal method.
You can purchase a pack of disposable razors for only a few bucks, or invest in a high quality reusable razor for a few dollars more. It's a much more economical option.
Of course, you can also try an at-home wax kit which can cost anywhere from $10 upwards, but it can be a messy (and painful) process.
Waxing irritates my skin, and gives me buttne and ingrown hairs.
When I shave my butt cheeks, I don't experience any of these issues, provided that I use the proper skincare products and tools, of course. It's obviously still possible to get nicks, rashes, and ingrowns from shaving butt hair, but for me it's a much gentler process with far fewer side effects.
"Waxing can cause irritability for sensitive skin," says Dr. Kiran Lohia, American board-certified dermatologist and founder of Lumiere Dermatology, agrees. "Furthermore, it has a tendency to lead to ingrowth, also known as chicken skin, especially for people with sensitive skin."
If you notice any irritability or redness after waxing, it may indicate that your skin is too sensitive for it. Opt for a gentler hair removal method like shaving. I've seen a huge improvement in the appearance of my skin since switching to shaving.
The thing I love about shaving is...you can do it anytime. Whenever you feel the fuzz return, you can simply hop in the shower and start shaving it away.
With waxing, however, a fair amount of preparation is needed, and you won't have consistent results. Whether you get a professional wax or do it yourself, you'll first need to wait for hair growth to reach around a quarter of an inch. Hello, awkward growing-out phase!
And it doesn't just apply to ass hair. Anywhere there's body hair -- your armpits, legs, bikini area -- hair needs to grow before you can wax it off.
I like the feel of a super smooth butt. With shaving, I can run the razor along my booty anytime I feel like it, whereas waxing comes with the disadvantage of inconsistency.
On average, shaving your butt takes around 5-10 minutes. Waxing, however, can take up to 30 minutes. Plus, there's also the pre-wax preparation of waiting for your hair to grow, etc. It's quite a drawn out process that simply doesn't work for busy babes like you and I.
If you're looking for an even faster solution for removing butt fuzz, you could try using a hair trimmer on those in between days to prolong the effects.
I'm not going to lie, waxing is an uncomfortable procedure. Regardless of your pain threshold, it's hard not to flinch with each rip. When you think about it, waxing is essentially ripping the hair out of the follicle. It's bound to be an unenjoyable experience.
Then there's the temperature of the wax and the lingering tenderness and redness of the skin that follows. It's pretty brutal.
Shaving is a much gentler process that's 100% pain-free. Unless you get cuts or razor burn, you should not feel any painful sensations from shaving. The best way to prevent this from happening is by exfoliating, using a sharp razor, applying a moisturizing shaving cream, and finishing with a nourishing body lotion. Good prep and aftercare pays off!
Waxing the butt may not be as agonizing as waxing the bikini line, but it's still pretty unpleasant.
No need to head out to the salon or your local esthetician! You can do butt hair removal right from the comfort of your own bathroom. I do!
Here's the DIY butt shaving routine I swear by...
To start, I prep my butt with Truly's Smooth Legend Pre-Shave Scrub. Exfoliating before shaving helps remove dirt and dead skin cells while enabling the active ingredients of other products to deeply penetrate the dermis, maximizing the results!
After rinsing away the product with warm water, I lather up Truly's Happy Hairless Shave Butter and slather it all over my booty. Then I run Truly's Life Shaver Starter Razor over my cheeks in the direction of hair growth, holding skin taut, until I'm smooth all over.
Finally, after washing away the butter and patting dry my butt, I massage in Truly's Glazed Donut Shave Oil to soothe, hydrate, and prevent ingrowns. Done!
FYI: you can also use the products from Truly's Smooth Legend Shave Kit on your armpits, pubic hair, and legs. Or, for a full Brazilian style shave. It's designed for all-over shaving.
When I'm done shaving, my butt feels super soft and silky. I'm left with no dark shadows, dryness, or razor bumps. My booty is utterly flawless! And the best part is: it stays this way for days.
I love this butt shaving routine because it's easy, pain-free, and it delivers killer results! Without a doubt, shaving is my fave hair removal option. Forget Brazilian waxes and laser hair removal which are pricey, painful, and potentially damaging to your hair follicles. Shaving is the way to go, ladies!
Whether it's your first time butt shaving or you're simply looking for an alternative to waxing, I definitely recommend shaving instead of waxing. It's a quick, affordable, painless, and effective hair removal method that can be done whenever it suits your schedule.
Provided you're armed with a few good tools and skincare products, you are guaranteed an ultra-close shave with silky smooth results.
