How to Adapt Your Skincare For Fall

How to Adapt Your Skincare For Fall

With fall comes the changing of duvet density, the adjusting of wardrobes, and a few skincare alterations.

Since fall typically comes with dryer, cooler weather, it's important to start using skincare products that replenish lost moisture in skin.

Here are a few tweaks you might want to make this time of year to maintain glowing, healthy skin.

Lightweight Lotions -> Rich Creams

Moisturizer, like cleanser, is a key part of any skincare routine. Now that the weather is drier and you're more prone to getting dry skin, it's important to nourish your skin with deeply hydrating formulas designed to infuse moisture into skin -- and seal it in.

Face creams and body lotions should include a combination of humectants, emollients, and occlusives to draw in moisture and lock it in for hours of hydration.

Since cream-based moisturizers are heavier and richer, they are more effective in sealing moisture content to the skin. A lotion is lighter with a higher water content and less oil, making it more appropriate through the summer months and less so during Autumn.

To diminish dryness, add a nourishing face and body moisturizer into your fall skincare routine.

Try Truly's Cream Skin Face Cream for daily hydration, and our Unicorn Fruit Whipped Body Butter for post-shower neck-to-toe dewiness.

Chemical Exfoliant Serums -> Natural Oils

While your skin needs exfoliation all year-round to remove dead skin cells and enable other products to absorb properly, those with drier skin should steer clear of using too many chemical exfoliant serums as they may end up drying your skin out even more.

During the colder months, switch to using a hyaluronic acid serum every evening to inject hydration into skin, strengthen the skin barrier, and keep skin feeling soft and smooth.

If you're dealing with skin concerns like fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or acne, you may still want to use a serum with chemical exfoliants or anti-aging benefits.

Since retinol is a gold standard of skincare ingredients, because it can treat a myriad of common issues like fine lines, discoloration, breakouts, and uneven texture, you might want to use it all year-round.

If you're looking to see the back of dry skin, invest in a hydrating oil like Truly's Hemp Oil Facial Serum or Glass Skin Facial Serum.

Clay Face Masks -> Hydrating Masks

Clay masks are great at drawing impurities out of your pores, but they can also leave your skin feeling dry. If you've got acne-prone skin, clay masks are great for clearing up breakouts and absorbing excess oil. For other skin types, these masks are best left with the summer sun.

When the seasons change, you may want to consider switching to a more hydrating formula to keep skin healthy and nourished through the fall. Between the drier air, cooler temperature, and dehydrating indoor heaters, your skin needs all the TLC it can get.

Truly's Vegan Collagen Booster Face Mask is designed to repair, resurface, and moisturize skin, while promoting skin brightening. This hydrating, antioxidant-rich mask will also get your skin through the dry, chilly winter months for 24/7 plump, youthful skin.

Showers -> Baths

In July, most of us favor showering over steamy baths. Come October, baths feel like the perfect way to warm up and unwind.

On that note, you'll want to follow a few steps to ensure your skin is getting the most out of tub time. For starters, avoid bathing in too-hot water. Ideally, you want it just above lukewarm so that it's relaxing without stripping your skin of moisture.

Next, use skincare products that nourish like those featured in Truly's Moon Bath Essentials Set. The body cleanser and spa mist are both formulated with adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha to soothe the senses and the skin. Remember to always finish with a generous layer of body moisturizer.

Sunscreen -> A Little Less Sunscreen

In the fall, you still need to be wearing SPF -- even on cloudy days. Why? Because UV rays are always present, even on less sunny days.

When your skin is exposed to UV rays, you leave yourself vulnerable to photoaging and sun damage. According to dermatologists, sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 should be applied every day for maximum protection.

In the cooler months, you can get away with wearing slightly less sunscreen since you go out a lot less than in the summer months. However, it's still essential to make SPF part of daily skincare regimen for healthy, happy skin.

Lip Balm -> 4-Step Lip Therapy

In the summer months when its hot and humid outdoors, you can get away with a couple of swipes of lip balm throughout the day. When fall comes around, you'll need to add a few more products to your lip care routine to keep them soft, luscious, and plump.

Lips are prone to dryness and flaking during the cooler months. That's why you need to show them a little more attention when Autumn arrives. We can't think of anything better than our GLOAT: Greatest Lips of All Time Bundle.

This 4-step lip kit includes a lip scrub, lip serum, lip oil, and lip butter, all designed to give you a plumper, juicier pout.

A lot of us forget about the lips when it comes to skincare and yet, they're one of the most delicate areas of the face -- in need of LOTS of TLC!

Adapting your skincare for fall can be a fun and reflective process. It's a way to reign in the new season while ensuring all your skins needs are met. We hope these skincare tips will help you maintain smooth, soft, and glowing skin throughout fall and maybe even through winter.
