Skincare Essentials You Need to Keep at Your Hookup’s House

Skincare Essentials You Need to Keep at Your Hookup’s House
by Truly Beauty

We get it - you want to look low maintenance when you're with him. We’ve all been there. But there's really NO need to sleep with your makeup on to impress a man!

In the long run, it's way better for your relationship and your skin to keep a few skincare essentials at his place.

What beauty products do we have in mind?

We've created a checklist for you (with a few Truly skincare product recommendations you're gonna wanna try!).

Makeup Remover Wipes

We get it. You just came home from a late night with your hookup and there it is - your comfy bed and the idea of that new guy seeing you sans mascara. Ahh!

The trouble is (and we're sure you've heard this many, many times before), sleeping with your makeup on is literally the worst thing you can do for your skin. And there are so many reasons why...

"First, makeup can trap dirt and environmental pollutants inside the skin, and this type of environmental stress can result in increased free radicals which can cause DNA mutations, collagen degradation, and, over time, can result in premature aging," says Dr. Sue Ann Wee of Schweiger Dermatology Group in NYC.

If you've got acne-prone skin, wearing makeup during sleep can also clog your pores, resulting in blemishes.

As we snooze, our skin goes through a regeneration process. When your skin's smothered with makeup, that natural process gets messed up and as a result, you end up waking up with dry skin instead of a rejuvenated, glowing complexion.

For the sake of your skin, keep a pack of makeup remover wipes at your hookup's house to maintain a happy, healthy skin.

A Gentle Cleanser

Every skincare routine (even the most streamlined ones) should comprise of a cleanser. And it's a step that shouldn't be missed - especially at night.

"The top later of the epidermis regenerates itself overnight, and you don’t want to obstruct that shedding process by clogging the pores with makeup, dirt, and oil," explains dermatologist Dr. Mona Gohara

Seeing as you probably hang out the most at night, it's well worth keeping a nourishing face wash at bae's house so you can rinse away all that dirt, grime, and oil before falling asleep at night. It's the easiest way to wake up with a dewy, dreamy complexion.

Recommended face wash: Truly's Super Matcha Facial Cleanser.

A Retinol Serum

Some people believe in night creams. We believe in retinol serums. Applying these at night will ensure your skin looks fabulous the next day. It really needs to be a part of your daily skincare regimen - even on those nights at his. You may not thank us now, but you will later!

"Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A that helps boost collagen production and aid in cell turnover," says New York City dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss. "This results in more even, smoother skin and helps reduce the appearance of sun spots, fine lines, and wrinkles."

While it's widely known as an anti-aging ingredient, retinol can also treat and prevent pimples. The benefits of this antioxidant are endless!

Just be careful if you have sensitive skin. You may need to slowly incorporate retinol into your routine so your skin type can adjust to it.

Recommended retinol serum: Truly's Purple Rain Glow Serum.

A Lip Scrub

Make your lips extra soft and kissable by keeping a hydrating lip scrub at bae's house.

"A lip scrub not only removes dead skin cells and helps exfoliate but it also allows for better penetration of hydrating products," says dermatologist Kavita Mariwalla, M.D. "By removing the outer layer of dead cells, emollients can penetrate better and work more effectively."

These exfoliating products are great for driving out dryness, maximizing hydration from other lip care products, and also for priming the area for makeup application by creating a smooth foundation for lipstick. What's not to love?

They're also great for prepping your lips for a major kissing session. Trust us, your hookup will be all over you when he feels that sensationally soft pout of yours!

Recommended lip scrub: Truly's Pineapple Haze CBD Lip Smoothing Polish.

A Lip Serum

Now that you've prepped your lips so perfectly, follow up with a moisturizer especially designed for the lips. Exfoliating the pout can leave it a little dry, so it's always a good idea to use a moisturizing balm, gloss, or serum straight afterwards to hydrate and smooth.

If you're looking to plump up that pout, look for volumizing ingredients like peppermint and hyaluronic acid which stimulate the circulation under the lips to create a swelling effect. You'll get a bee-stung pout in no time when you use a product with one of these ingredients inside.

Recommended lip serum: Truly's GLOAT Lip Plumping Serum.

SPF

Just in case you two decide to go out on a spontaneous morning or midday stroll, be sure to keep a tube of sunscreen at his house.

Even on cloudy days, you should be wearing sunscreen every day with an SPF of at least 15. That's because the UV rays are always present and your risk of experiencing premature aging or getting skin cancer is always there.

Urge your hookup to slather it on too! If things are getting serious between you two, you're gonna wanna keep him healthy!

You don't need to request a drawer or anything. Your skincare essentials should easily fit in Truly's Skincare Travel Pouch.

If you feel like it, you can also throw in a few extras like a toner, vitamin C serum, eye cream, or face mask, but these are not necessary to keep your skin healthy and glowing on those occasional sleepovers at his.

You can also feel free to pack a couple of wellness essentials like an eye mask or zen mist. Whatever makes you feel happy and comfortable at his!

Just make sure you keep the above skincare essentials at your hookup's house to keep your skin blemish-free, crease-free, and thriving!
