What I Wish I Knew About Butt Acne

What I Wish I Knew About Butt Acne
by Truly Beauty

Butt breakouts are an annoying yet common issue - especially for people who work out a lot or sit down all day at a desk.

We all know that it's bothersome and can be a little hard to talk about, but butt pimples can be treated – and prevented.

Unlike the skin on your face, the skin on your butt is thicker and contains more oil glands. Thus, it needs to be treated differently and with more potent products.

Here’s everything you need to know about butt acne.

BUTT ACNE ISN'T TECHNICALLY ACNE

Butt breakouts could be caused by folliculitis or keratosis pilaris.

Folliculitis is a bacterial infection in the hair follicles that usually affects a person's arms, thighs, or buttocks. It is characterized by red bumps and inflammation of pus-filled cysts on the skin. Folliculitis is more common in people with diabetes, obesity, or a weakened immune system. To treat folliculitis, your doctor can prescribe antibiotic cream and recommend a course of oral antibiotics.

Keratosis pilaris is a genetic condition usually caused by an excess of keratin, a protein substance found in the skin cells. It can be mistaken for acne because it often appears as small clusters of hard little bumps on your upper arms, back of knees, butt and cheeks around your mouth. Unlike acne, though, keratosis pilaris doesn't have an oily texture to it – it’s more like goosebumps!

The difference between these types of breakouts and actual acne is how they look: while regular pimples are seen mainly at the surface level, these will only appear under the skin.

Butt Acne Could Be Caused By Friction

One thing you should know about butt breakouts is that they are usually triggered by shaving. Shaving causes a type of friction that can lead to acne-like bumps.

People with these types of breakouts also have dry skin on their butt because of the constant friction with clothes.

Butt Acne Could Be Eczema or Other Skin Conditions

Though bacteria on the skin’s surface can cause butt blemishes to occur, they are often a sign of an inflammatory disease such as eczema. However, it could also be psoriasis or contact dermatitis.

It can be hard to tell if your breakouts are pimples or KP because both types occur below the skin - but if it doesn't go away after one week or shows unusual signs like redness, pus-filled bumps, or thickening around hair follicles, then it might be more than just keratosis pilaris!

If this happens, schedule a dermatologist appointment for diagnosis. Treatments involve moisturizing creams and lotions combined with other topical medicines.

Butt Breakouts May Be Caused by Working Out

Working out in sweaty clothing and then sitting around in them for hours could be responsible for your butt blemishes.

Shower as soon as you’ve finished working out to keep your booty blemish-free. And be sure to change out of sweaty clothes as soon as possible after a workout!

Breakouts on Your Butt May Be Caused by Skin Irritation or Allergies

Some people experience butt breakouts because their skin is sensitive and no matter what they put on it, it will become irritated. In other cases, allergies might also be causing irritations - especially for those with eczema-prone skin.

Butt Acne Could Be Caused by Sitting for too Long

Your butt needs some air - and that's not going to happen if you spend all day glued to the sofa or your office chair. Sitting too long means your butt isn’t getting enough air. That combined with the friction from the chair can lead to booty breakouts.

HOW TO TREAT BUTT ACNE

Shower Frequently

Keeping your skin clean is essential to maintain a clear, blemish-free butt. A good shower removes dirt and oil from your skin, helps open pores, and can even kill bacteria that causes acne.

If you have dry or eczema-prone skin, use a gentle soap without any harsh chemicals. As always, avoid products with fragrances for sensitive types!

We recommend Truly’s Butne Routine to keep your booty looking soft, smooth, and flawless.

Try Butt Masking

Butt masking is an easy way to fight the appearance of acne on your butt.

Find a thick moisturizing cream that suits you and apply it generously on your butt. If possible, have someone else help with this step!

The idea is to seal in moisture – not suffocate skin as some other masks can do. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Finally, pat dry and apply a thin layer of moisturizer to keep skin hydrated. Repeat this process as needed throughout the week or whenever you feel like your butt is getting too dry!

Try Truly’s CBD Jelly Anti-Blemish Body Mask to clear away those pesky pimples.

Exfoliate Regularly

To clear up butt acne, you'll need to exfoliate regularly to keep dead skin cells away.

An excellent way to do this is by using a body wash or soap explicitly made for exfoliating the skin. Just wet your skin, then lather up with the cleanser on hand, like Truly’s CBD Jelly Anti-Blemish Body Cleanser!

Be sure not to use anything too harsh, though, as it could cause more breakouts than you started with in the first place!

OTHER HANDY TIPS FOR GETTING RID OF BUM BREAKOUTS

  • Wear Loose Clothing

This helps prevent friction which can cause breakouts and irritation.

  • Stay Clean with Antibacterial Towelettes

If you don't want to shower every day, these will help remove dirt from any surface on your body - including your backside!

  • Keep Your Butt Dry at all Times

This prevents sweat from becoming trapped against your skin and creating an ideal environment for acne-causing bacteria.

  • Wear Cotton Underwear

If possible, wear cotton underwear because many synthetic materials have chemicals (such as nylon) that can irritate the sensitive area around your butt.

Butt acne is annoying, we’re not going to deny that. The good news is that with the right skincare formulas and prevention methods, you can quickly clear up those pesky pimples on your booty.
